Neb and Keagan approached us to design and build several custom elements for their first Ronin Art House event space. We build a custom steel bar with cast concrete countertops, a pivoting lit sign, exterior entry entry steps, entry doors and the unique interactive mirror wall.
The pivoting sign was developed through conversations with the client-- they were worried about blocking one of their few windows with a sign so we decided to "make it a feature" and build in a pivoting mechanism inspired by the work of Tom Kundig. We developed and fabricated the mechanicals including a wheel on a slip clutch to ensure that the mechanism could not damage itself if overturned.
Shout out to former rootlaber Francis Giampietro for his concrete casting expertise and Robert Beaudette for his machining skills.
The mirror wall was developed from left over parts for a temporary set piece we built in conjunction with Derek Beck (derekbeck.co) for a music video he shot for Caddywhompus. Check out the behind the scenes here.
A few months after the initial install we build a steel and glass double entry door and a set of ipe and galvanized steel entry stairs.
